If you would rather attend via ZOOM, send an email to WinterWoodsHOA@gmail.com and Nell will send you the link. All homeowners and renters are welcome to attend the Association Meetings. There are no meetings during June or July and no delivered newsletters during July or August. July and August newsletters are email-only. If you are not receiving the newsletters by email, contact Nell at WinterWoodsHOA@gmail.com

Have you paid your HOA dues for 2026 yet?

As of 1/12/2026, we’re at 50 paid members for 2026.

Your dues pay for the printing of the HOA Newsletter that is hand delivered to your door as well as the Neighborhood Night Out, greenery in the “public areas” and other events that happen in the neighborhood. No one on the HOA Board is paid as we are all volunteers.  The work in the “public areas,” which are the entrance sign areas, is done by volunteers as well.

Would you like to pay your HOA dues? You can click here to do it online, mail your $25 to the HOA at PO Box 342 Goldenrod, FL, 32733-0342 or drop it by 1958 Poinciana Rd (leave it in the mailbox). If you are not sure that you paid, send an email to WinterWoodsHOA@gmail.com or use the “Official Stuff” tab to view the addresses who have paid.

A WEB page is only as good as its latest update.

From the desk of Anthony Riley for December 2025

Shuffling through a nearly empty bowl of various rejected sweets that even children were not interested in – I contemplate Thanksgiving. Butterfinger pie again this year? We should skip straight to Christmas. The Lake Howell Star Wars theme ride is well under construction, and I saw Christmas lights on November 1st. And for the reader? That turkey is a carcass in the back of the fridge behind the cola-pecan Jello and the mushroom green bean casserole topped with Funyuns. Or Pringles.

But we cannot skip Thanksgiving, the one holiday that does not insist on proof of involvement by an extra spend on decorations or explosives. Or gifts. No, this is the time we give thanks. And it is not always easy to find that thing we are truly grateful for. So, let’s keep it local.

I am grateful that we live in a neighborhood where people feel safe walking the sidewalks with their kids and dogs. I’m grateful that our Neighborhood Watch program is as exciting as watching C-SPAN – wait, bad example. As watching leaves change colors…trust me, that happens in other places.

The people in the neighborhood make Winter Woods what it is. Especially the volunteers. That would include the entire HOA Board and a select group who are not!

This very newsletter has not been AI infused enough to deliver itself. That happy chore goes to the following heroes: Amanda, Anna and Crew, James and his Squire, Bob and Cindy, Richard and Maureen, Deb and Larry, Traci and Jasmine, Ed, Phylis, and Sabrina. Nor rain, Nor heat!

Special thanks to the Island CrewTerry, Ross, Ron and Stan. If you are unaware, these volunteers mow and trim all the real estate between 436 and your entrance circle. Somebody’s got to do it. And everybody looks and thinks those guys work when they want. True that. And in other landscaping accolades, thank you to Elaine and her Crew for the circle entrance and to Laura and Crew for the Lake Howell Rd entrance. Those were dirt fields not so long ago.

Let’s round up the events. Halloween was a smashing success, look for treater pics at the HOA Website. The Fall Super Garage Sale Spectacle had 24 homes trying to strengthen the economy if you count the couple of blankets with bobbles and the mobile e-bay store.

Jing, Jing, Jingle all the way. Get your Holiday decorations lit up on December 21st at 6:00pm to be included in the Decorating Contest. Winners must pay the Dues. Like a good neighbor.

Speaking of Dues, in January we will launch our 2026 Membership Dues Drive!

We’re excited to share something new in this month’s newsletter! One of our very own neighbors, Jean Marie Fuhrman, a talented writer, has graciously shared a few of her “Pixie Poems.”  Jean Marie is also well known for her encouraging words to husband Jerry as he makes exceptional coffee for the neighborhood!

And lastly, I appreciate and am thankful for the HOA Board and the people who participate in the events and the people who pay the often mentioned $25 Dues and even the ones that don’t. We are a Neighborhood.

I hear the music playing me off but know all of you are welcome at our HOA Meeting at 7:00pm at the South Seminole Church of Christ on Lake Howell Rd December 11th. Zoom is available – just email winterwoodshoa@gmail.com to get the link.

Thursday, October 30th is when the Ghost Squad comes by to judge all decorations. We have winners of the festive displays, and you will find pictures on our website Winter Woods Homeowners Association – Winter Park, FL. Thank you to all the people who decorated and gave out treats and made Winter Woods a child’s celebration destination!

Speaking of decorations and judging, Santa has confirmed another holiday season as anticipated! Santa’s helpers will be coming around on December 21st at 6:00pm to view your colorful enhancements – light that tree! These part-time judges will be recognizing the best decorations with a prize – must be a good standing member of the HOA to win. We are all good standing, but if you want the prize, you must pay the remarkably low $25 annual HOA dues. Santa says. It’s not too early to think about next year’s dues either. Santa said that too, but Rudolf had to remind him.

We conducted our General Membership Meeting and feedback was positive. We appreciate the consensus that communication access is easy and open. If you have an issue, you can contact the board in many ways and several of our neighbors have brought things to the Boards attention. We will address all concerns and stand by our commitment to help resolve anything we can.

I can report a highly successful Neighborhood Night Out a few Saturdays back. Despite the rain, we had many families come out and enjoy the amenities. Personally, I was soaked from shirt to shorts but that never kept me from a good time. We will be doing it again next year around the same time. Pictures of this event are on the website on the Photo Gallery tab.

Our next event is the Fall Super Garage Sale Spectacle on Saturday November 15thSend me an email with any special items and your address so that we can include you in adverts on the apps.

We have set some dates for your 2026 calendar that you will not want to miss. First is the Spring Garage Sale on March 7th. The usual parade of bargain hunters. The next event is the Spring Fling on March 28th. That is where the fun meets warmer weather – but not too warm.

And lastly, we had another escaped dog recently and had trouble finding the owner. What do the pet owners think about a private volunteer pet registry maintained and managed by the HOA? We would keep a photo and owner information on file and if a pet is found, we can check the registry. Registry access would be restricted to the board. Send me your thoughts. The number one post on NextDoor is missing dog or cat. Followed by is this poisonous? Followed by can I eat this?

Speaking of hopping – we have it going on! The Neighborhood Night Out on Saturday October 4th, 5:00pm has probably already happened by the time you read this – but maybe not. Let me go into the future and tell you what an extravaganza it was and you can verify – if you made it out.

For the first time, we had Mini Golf! That’s right, 9 holes with treacherous obstacles and impatient Dads waiting to make that putt. And Popcorn! And a Fire Engine without a fire (technically) and Glitter Tattoos! Plus, the Bounce House and Neighborhood Vendors including Food Trucks and the ever-present HOA Booth to remind people to pay their $25 HOA Dues! We did it! Things got started at 5:00pm and for the first time on a Saturday, we still cleared the street by dark. Thank you for coming out to the event. The hope is you met some new people and saw familiar neighbors and gave them a solid What’s Up! Community is built one clown face paint at a time.

In other events, it’s the season of the witch and we are decorating. Gussy the place up (Boo!) for the neighborhood contest judged by all the local ghouls and goblins. There is a prize. All that helpful candy, too. This year’s key-note speech will be by Casper. Who you gonna call?

Don’t forget about the Fall Super Garage Sale Spectacle on Saturday November 15th! Time to clean those closets out. Dare to thin out the clutter!

There is a resident requested Traffic Study happening in the neighborhood. We will post results next month, but experience has taught us we will find 25 mph looks faster from the sidewalk and we have many people visiting on their way through. Just passing by.
