And ten families have already paid for 2026.
From the desk of Anthony Riley – September 2025
Welcome back to the printed version of the Newsletter. There is a cold drink ring on this copy already. Special shout-out to our Carriers like James and Sabrina, who delivered this to you for the exercise. For the people who are “digital”, and really like the color pictures, the online version is available at our website: Winter Woods Homeowners Association – Winter Park, FL.
There is so much going on, this column wrote itself (ChatGPT). I don’t even need to mention the Water Main Replacement Project – but I will mention the patient and good neighbors Don and Laura Christie who share their yard with the highly decorative above ground contraption that makes the Water Main – um, the Water Main. Don called me to report – and he had as much hope in his voice as if he had called Google or the Vatican – that there was a kerfuffle with his sprinkler system and could I help. I made a call (left VM) and sent an email to Lynn – Project Supervisor – and within no time at all the crew was back around to make things right. Thank you, Casselberry. If there are any other problems call 407-967-6662 and ask for Larry Stephey, he will sort you out. Actually, that is my number.
And I still have not found a way to take credit for this but how about those new roads? Nice new paths for the cut through people. I had nothing to do with this but when Greg Pfister calls, people pick up the phone. We will see what is next. Ask him about Dollar General next time you see him.
What’s next is our Fall Events! Right around the corner is the Neighborhood Night Out on Saturday October 4th, 5:00pm. Our annual street festivity will feature a bounce house, many kid-friendly fun things (like a big-ole fire truck). Last year, one of the youngsters almost got a free ride in the back seat of a Sherrif’s cruiser. That Sherrif was putting all of us on! There will be food trucks, some neighborhood vendors and a chance to meet some people in our neighborhood. People who know people look out for each other.
Did you say look out? You best look out for all the decorating and tricking and treating that come with Halloween. There Will Be a Contest! All Duespaying houses can win the Contest and prizes!
Did someone say neighborhood HOA $25 Dues? I run the chance of getting rode out on a rail if I don’t mention Dues! It occurred to me that the 53.2% of people who have not paid (Check Here) must think that Dues run from September to August, like school. So here is a special deal. Pay the Dues now, we’ll pro-rate the rest of the year (first 8 months free!) and collect again next Fall. Which we will ask you for in January. Just like this year.
And if that’s not enough, we will have the Fall Super Garage Sale Spectacle on Saturday November 15th! Curbside superlatives!
Finally, the General Membership Meeting is Thursday, October 9th and we will elect new board members. Please come out! This meeting and our next regular meeting Thursday September 11th are at 7:00pm at the South Seminole Church of Christ on Lake Howell Rd. See you there!
And lastly, a special thank you to Gerty Ekdahl for painting the entrance lettering on the sign that reminds us where home is: Winter Woods.
From the desk of Anthony Riley – August 2025
End of the spring and here she comes – back. Hi, Hi, Hi, Hi there. Hot fun in the summertime. And what Beach Boys song is not about the summer fun? A nod of the cap to Sly and Brian who moved on but left behind such great music that is wrapped around so many memories for so many people. Crazy, but that’s how it goes.
How’s the neighborhood? We still have construction on the City of Casselberry’s Water Main Replacement Projects Northgate Phase 1 and I reached out to Lynn Jarrell, Utility Projects Supervisor for the City of Casselberry for an update. Lynn tells me they are 93-95% finished. Next Wednesday, July 30th, they are having a full inspection with the contractors to create a finalize list. Items that remain are correcting a storm drain, sidewalk repair and sod repair. They expect the entire project to be finished by the end of September as the crew is ahead of schedule.
This is the last newsletter – that you can’t roll up to swat mosquitoes with that is! Next month we are back to the printed version, which always delights the remaining few tactile readers who might even enjoy an occasional book. Today’s world has book clubs where no one actually touches a book or listens to someone read it to them at a normal speed. The digital version will also be available at our website: www.winterwoodshoa.com
Speaking of coming back – sometimes when an event stops happening you begin to miss it, wishing it were back. I’m talking about the HOA Monthly Meetings, and this is not one of those things. But we are bringing them back! Truth is, I am looking forward to seeing all the smiling happy faces of neighborhood volunteers that care enough to meet and do what we can to make this a better place to live. That first meeting back is Thursday August 14th – the second Thursday of the month at 7:00pm at the South Seminole Church of Christ on Lake Howell Rd. Come on out.
HOA sponsored events are coming in the fall! We are celebrating our fine neighborhood with our truly fine neighbors at the Neighborhood Night Out on Saturday October 4th, 5:00pm through dark. Bring the kids! Make the kids bring you! There will be something for everyone.
And now is the time to find an empty box and start filling it with items you will feature at the Fall Garage Sale on Saturday November 15th! Shoppers like clothes, records, kid toys and many other things. I remember a sale once where there was a pair of Birkenstocks, but the seller was barefoot. Spoiled the whole thing.
Did you notice that I did not ask even once if you paid those almost symbolic yet real enough to spend on the neighborhood $25 HOA Dues? Hot fun in the summertime – for everyone!
From the desk of Anthony Riley – July 2025
Fourth of July! Am I right? The dogs told me they finally got their lobby group to tighten up the use of fireworks, but they still are not on board with the celebrations. As far as I know, cats have only made their opinion known by passive aggressive hiding.
Speaking of the weather, Happy Heatwave! Why are we surprised every summer when the topic is the weather? First storm has already happened – Erick – but wait, first Major storm (since they are alphabetic and this season is Scandinavian too) so we are approximately 5 storms in (math!) and storm shutters and supplies are not even on our mind. Yet.
It is not bad advice to consider the past while planning the future.
The neighborhood is quiet unless you are the guy who keeps getting rain instead of sunshine, but then again – that’s most of us. Quiet in the sense that there are no major neighborhood events to promote, sponsor or attend. Quiet in the sense there is not a single mention of $25 HOA DUES! Nope, there are TWO mentions of $25 HOA DUES! Enough of that.
There is a feel-good-about-the-neighborhood story in this edition, and I want to thank Stan Recob (founder of the Island Crew) for bringing this to our attention. If you have anything newsworthy regarding our neighborhood – send it to us and we will feature your news!
Congratulations for navigating your way to the E-Newsletter (copyright pending) our paperless version of the HOA Newsletter for the summer months. We are taking a break from our monthly meetings also, but they will resume in August. When you are talking to your neighbor about this fabulous newsletter and they say – hey, I didn’t get that – remind them to send a message to WinterWoodsHOA@gmail.com, and get on our list to receive all those notifications and the newsletter.
There are home improvement projects going on in several locations around the neighborhood and they are a great indication that our residents are working to promote prestige and pride for the purpose of maintaining property value for everyone. Kudos to renovations! (a word of Greek origin, meaning “fame” or “glory”)
Even though you’re cooking your own hotdog, there are events in the fall to put on your calendar including the Neighborhood Night Out on Saturday October 4th, 5:00pm through dark and the Fall Garage Sale on Saturday November 15th!
Enjoy your vacations and bug bites! I’m on a boat!
